In a time when over 13,000 cryptos are competing to prove themselves, how do you spot the best of them?
Most of these projects offer great promise. But, few have the track record of development and testing to qualify for anything more than a trade. One crypto in particular has set the bar high.
In today’s interview, I explore this with Monero (XMR) developer Lee Clagett at the 2022 Monerotopia conference in Miami, FL.
He has been a funded code contributor to Monero since 2016 and is best known for his contribution to PoW tweaks, the Light Wallet server, and increasing transaction broadcasting privacy via Tor/onion routing and I2P.
Lee shares that too few projects are focused on being really good at one thing. He states, “Other projects see there is another new thing out there and try to be that thing by adding on new features.”
We agreed that Monero is a great example of a community working to be the best at employing FOSS ethos, honesty, and focused development to improve all that XMR has to offer in becoming perfect digital money.
To top it off, most of this progress was made with nearly a third of Monero contributors being anonymous. It was fascinating for me to witness them meet in person.
Lee shared how many of these developers are single-handedly so brilliant that you would expect a whole team to have been behind their work.
Listen to what Lee has to say for this rare behind the scenes Monero perspective.

One of my favorite questions to ask cryptographers is, “What are your thoughts on Dero?”
When I asked Lee, he shared, “It is one of the most experimental techs out there. Private smart contracts are the direction everyone wants to go and it is definitely doable.”
This is why I refer to Dero as alien tech and why we like Dero (DERO) at The Crypto Vigilante.
Unlike Ethereum that is risking billions of dollars in market cap when they add features, Dero is still very young and in a great position to further raise the bar for the crypto space.
Lee added to this reality by stating, “When you change the code, you are literally managing billions of dollars.” Lee is attentively following Dero development.
It was great to discuss these topics with a developer seasoned by the methodical mindset of the Monero community.
It is my hope and encouragement that this standard for sound money and cryptography continues to inspire projects like Dero.
