When it comes to crypto, should we trust the code or trust the people behind it?
DarkFi is an anonymous DeFi network. I recently had the opportunity to sit down and speak with DarkFi Developer Rachel-Rose O’Leary backstage at MoneroTopia in Miami after she gave her remarkable presentation on Monero, DarkFi, and the Neo-Cypherpunk Vision.
In my discussion with Rachel-Rose O’Leary, we covered everything from zero-knowledge proofs and trusted setups to Dero (DERO) and DarkFi’s blockchain testnet.
“If you give developers tooling and you reduce barriers to entry, write tools that inspire and empower developers instead of enslaving and restricting them, you end up with runaway innovation,” says O’Leary.
Rachel-Rose O’Leary continued:
“The exciting thing is, zero-knowledge is an unexplored design space and implies a new paradigm of thinking about computation, with hidden information where you can reveal some information and hide other information, which will result in new designs, techniques, and applications. I truly believe it’s going to revolutionize software as we know it today.”
During our interview, Rose had a lot of insight to share about consensus, why DarkFi does not use a Trusted Setup, and why they chose Proof of Stake over Proof of Work for the protocol.
Here at The Crypto Vigilante (SUBSCRIBE), we lean towards the benefits of Proof of Work, but I am always seeking to learn more, so when our conversation turned towards the features of Proof of Stake, we had to challenge one another to think outside the box.

In the video above, we also talked about the benefits of Pirate Chain (ARRR) compared to Zcash (ZEC) and more broad topics like incentivization, sunk costs, and the ambitious goals of the DarkFi project.
Watch until the end to hear my proposal for a developer conference and call for abstracts.
It’s time for us to explore anonymity as a design space.
It’s time to take the crypto movement to the next level.
It's time to BUIDL the world we want to live in.
